Limiting beliefs are the ultimate antagonist to any entrepreneur’s success story. If you let them take the reins of your personal life, you may never reach your full potential as an entrepreneur.
As an entrepreneur who’s built multiple 8-figure businesses, I’m no stranger to limiting beliefs or self-doubt.
Once Luxvoni.com began to take off in 2020, imposter syndrome hit me hard.
I found myself stressed, annoyed, and irritated. I even questioned if all the money was even worth the effort; even though I once dreamed of the lifestyle that I possessed, I constantly struggled with negative beliefs, thoughts, and emotions.
Eventually, I became obsessed with the psychology of the mind, and within a year, it completely transformed my life for the better.
Now, It’s my goal to help you make the same transition I made.
“There’s not enough time in the day.”
“I wish I could find good employees.”
“These clients have no boundaries.”
“I need 15 of me to fulfill all of these projects.”
Ahh…yes. So many excuses, so little time, right?
We’ve all had these thoughts, and obviously, they do more harm than good. That’s because
limiting beliefs steal you blind of your potential.
As a matter of fact, negative beliefs and thoughts are 7x more powerful than empowering beliefs and thoughts;
this means we humans are more acceptant of adopting disempowering beliefs over empowering beliefs.
If we continue to look a the glass half empty over half full, these beliefs start to become ingrained in our subconscious minds, and we end up manifesting negative shit.
What Are Limiting Believes?
Ohh, limiting beliefs are only reserved for the unmotivated and the unsuccessful, right?
WRONG.
Even the minds of the most successful entrepreneurs are not impervious to limiting beliefs.
As humans, our beliefs dictate our thoughts, our thoughts dictate our actions, our actions dictate our habits, and our habits dictate our reality and future.
This means we have two options:
1.) We can have limiting beliefs, which will then limit our thoughts, limit our actions, limit our habits, and limit our reality and future.
2.) We can have empowering beliefs which will then empower our thoughts, empower our actions, empower our habits, and empower our reality and future.
But what we can’t have is both.
So what is a limiting belief, really?
A limiting belief is a state of mind or an idea you tell yourself that constricts you in some way. Once you’ve convinced yourself these fault ideas hold truth, they prevent you from reaching your full potential - professionally and emotionally.
This leads to feelings of fear, endless excuses, and self-doubt and causes you to adopt a victim mentality. It’s not abnormal, and it’s more common to have these experiences than not, but they could be robbing you of your desired life.
So where do we learn these toxic beliefs, and why do they come up so often?
That’s a great question.
They tend to come through our upbringing and life experiences.
Education impacts the ways we think and what we choose to adopt as truth.
In school, teachers give us one way to do something. They tell us that everyone has to have a specialized degree, and then we get to look forward to building someone else's empire instead of our own.
Family beliefs are also deeply rooted in us at a very young age. When your instinct is never to question authority, the idea of wandering off the path of least resistance can be scary. If you grew up in a family with two parents who got a degree and worked for one company for 20 years, it might feel like you’re betraying them when you decide to take a different path for yourself.
Beyond our structural upbringing, negative experiences, and consuming negative content from news outlets, these things kickstart negative beliefs, which then lead to negative thoughts.
For example, if a relationship ends with heartbreak (or a business deal goes bad), we may develop adversity by putting ourselves in similar situations.
No there’s no shame in being conscious of these factors, no one is perfect, but a part of being successful is recognizing unhealthy trauma before they create chaos in your life.
The Top Five Limiting Beliefs Your Experiencing Right Now
Everyone’s skepticism and doubt stem from our unique memories, experiences, and upbringing. But there are some things that we all find ourselves worrying about at some point in our lives.
Here are some of the most common limiting beliefs that may be plaguing your bright mind right now:
1.) I don’t have time: I used to find myself making this statement 3-5 times a day. I found myself on one Thursday evening complaining to a mentor/client of mine who owns an automotive empire that does over 270 million dollars a year in sales. He stopped me dead in my tracks and said Dakota, we both have the same 24 hours a day; the only difference is how we leverage that time so ask yourself what’s your time worth, and once you determine that, find out what task can automate, delegate, and eliminate so you can free yourself up. Those three words changed my life, and will change yours too.
2.) It’s too expensive: Most ambitions are going to require some sort of financial investment, but it’s not about your resources; it’s about your resourcefulness. Instead of disempowering yourself by making this statement, empower yourself by reverse engineering the cost into daily and weekly goals. For example, last year, I wanted a Lamborghini Urus, which is a $360,000 car. I found out that the payment would be $3800 per month; instead of stating wow, that’s ridiculous, I stated well, how much extra income do I need to generate per day… It ended up being only $113.00 a day; I bought the car 30 days later.
3.) I don’t want to fail: Fear of failure is the most damaging limiting belief to possess. In school, you either pass or fail a test, but in the real world, you either win or learn. The only way one can fail is if one gives up. Look at everything you do as an experiment. Run it, take the feedback, adjust, and keep moving forward.
4.) I don’t understand: As entrepreneurs, we are quick to dismiss things that are confusing or unachievable. I’ve done it, and you do it too. The problem with this type of behavior is we end up cutting ourselves short and missing dozens of opportunities. The majority of successful people have pure intentions and have already walked in your shoes; these people are willing to share their knowledge and experiences with you. Instead of having a closed mind, I would challenge you to have an open mind because you are just one connection, one strategy, and one call away from achieving everything you want, desire, and deserve.
5.) I’ve been burnt before: Who hasn't? Have you ever been in a relationship where you fell in love with the other person, and they completely left you heartbroken? After you healed and recovered from the emotional damage, did you decide just to write off dating altogether? No, you understood that theirs's 7.8 billion people in this world, and you got back in the game. You didn’t let one experience ruin all of your other opportunities. Don’t let your past traumas hold you back from taking advantage of this opportunity.
How Do Limiting Beliefs Harm Us?
Limiting beliefs do precisely what they promise they’ll do - they limit us.
These damaging thoughts can quickly creep into your professional life if you let them; the last thing an entrepreneur needs is for these fears to manifest into a reality that causes them unwarranted pain, struggle, and fear.
It’s impossible to be an industry leader if your constantly second doubting yourself. Successful entrepreneurs aren’t afraid to break down barriers by consistently doing more than they expect from themselves.
Every client that I have that does 8-figures a year doesn’t allow limiting beliefs to anchor them down; they are all opportunists.
Every unsuccessful client I’ve ever worked with is skeptical, pessimistic, and is constantly second doubting themselves and us.
Take luxvoni.com, for example,
Back in 2020, when we really started to scale, everyone told me to get out of Done-For-You services; they told me it was a nightmare to scale, it was painful, and I’d never be able to get to eight-figures, instead of allowing these disempowering beliefs to limit me, I looked at it as an opportunity.
Clearly, everyone I had talked to had given up, which motivated me even more, to stick with it because there wasn’t much competition if I could figure it out.
Yes, it required a lot of sacrifices, but that same year, we crossed the $10,000,000 mark and had hundreds of successful clients who claimed they owed their success to us.
Take amazon for an example.
Back in the ’90s, Amazon was an online bookstore. A few years later, the company added the third-party marketplace to its site. This is what helped amazon dominate the online retail business; now, the company is all about innovation.
Who would trust “Earth’s biggest bookstore” to sell anything other than a book?
Everyone apparently, Jeff Bezos’s refusal to give in to others limiting beliefs and failure is what lead him to his 136 Billion dollar net-worth.
Take Starbucks for an example; When Howard Schultz decided to try to find investors to turn his vision for Starbucks into a reality, he was declined by nearly 150 banks.
Everyone told him that his idea was stupid and no one in their right mind would pay 6.00 for a cup of coffee.
On his 151 shot, he found an investor that believed in his vision and it allowed him to build a coffee franchise that generates over 31 billion dollars in annular revenue
Everyone’s business journey is different, but I can promise you that checking your doubts and limiting beliefs at the door will result in unbelievable growth and confidence in your ability as an entrepreneur.
What the mind believes, the mind can conceive, but it all starts with a belief.
How Do Limiting Beliefs Harm Us?
Frankly, you don't get results like this above with limiting beliefs.
No one is entirely immune to limiting beliefs, but with a shift in mindset
